What a year it’s been for the Coronavirus Class of 2021.

The cohort entered its final year of schooling barely recovered from the chaos of 2020, and dove straight into what probably takes the cake as the hardest year of schooling ever.

But after a long and stressful year characterised by lockdowns, remote learning and social isolation which took its toll on Year 12s, approximately 76,299 students are now preparing for the HSC written exams, which kick off next week.

Here’s a rundown of how the HSC will play out this year, including key dates, COVID-19 support team contacts, quick links to official exam timetables and COVID-safe protocols, and other helpful sites to help support students

HSC Key Dates

  • Written examinations were delayed to give everyone involved in the HSC more time to get vaccinated. They’ll now kick off on Tuesday 9 November with English, and close out with Food Technology on Friday 3 December 2021.

Check out the full 2021 HSC written examination timetable here.

  • ATAR Results will be released Thursday 20 January 2022.
  • HSC Results will be released Monday 24 January 2022.

COVID-safe exam protocols

NESA has outlined strict COVID-safe exam protocols that’ll be in place to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in the HSC, including:

  • Mandatory mask-wearing
  • Arrival protocols & student screening
  • COVID-safe check-in information
  • Physical distancing rules
  • Hygiene and cleaning standards
  • Response protocols for COVID cases
  • And the requirement for all exam supervisors and presiding officers to be fully vaccinated before written exams start.

While it’s not mandatory, HSC students are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated in time for their exams.

Other important/helpful links

  • Personalised HSC timetables: Students can view their personalised HSC timetables by visiting the NESA website and logging on to their Students Online account.
  • 2021 HSC Rules and Procedure: This is an important read. By signing confirmation of entry into the HSC exams, students are certifying they’ve read this guide.
  • HSC exam tips: Helpful tips to use in the run up to the HSC exams, from creating a study plan to practising your exam technique
  • COVID-19 Special Consideration Program: NESA developed this special program for HSC students whose preparation or completion of an exam or major project has been significantly impacted by COVID-19. It’s a little different from the usual Illness & Misadventure program – find out more here.
